Lauren Faust mentioned in her recent interview with Equestria Daily that she had planned for Zecora to appear more often than she did, and to have been a sort of second mentor to Twilight Sparkle, but that obviously didn’t happen.
Shame, because she’s one of my favorite background characters. :( I hope she appears more often in Season 2.
